A fine and historically important early Syracusan tetradrachm, featuring the celebrated quadriga and Arethusa types that would become emblematic of Syracuse coinage. Struck in silver.

Obverse: Nike flying right, crowning the charioteer of a quadriga advancing right; the horses rendered in high classical style.

Reverse: Head of Arethusa facing right, surrounded by dolphins; ethnic legend ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ.
