A 1918 1/4D S-4060 Bright Finish, BN is a bronze farthing of King George V struck during the transition from the earlier artificially darkened ("blackened") finish to the natural bright bronze finish introduced in 1918. The S-4060 catalog number (Spink) identifies the bright-finish variety. BN (Brown) indicates the coin retains predominantly brown surfaces, with little or no original red mint color remaining. The obverse features the portrait of King George V by Bertram Mackennal, while the reverse depicts Britannia seated with shield and trident. This variety is collected separately from the earlier S-4059 Blackened Finish issue and is scarcer in Mint State than the standard circulation strikes.
