The 1901 Great Britain penny is an early issue from the reign of King Edward VII, struck in bronze for general circulation in the United Kingdom.

It was the first year of Edward VII coinage after the death of Queen Victoria in 1901, so the design reflects the transition to the new monarch.

The obverse features a right-facing portrait of King Edward VII, with the inscription “EDWARDVS VII D: G: BRITT: OMN: REX F: D: IND: IMP:” (Latin abbreviations meaning Edward VII, by the Grace of God, King of all Britain, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India).

The reverse shows the familiar seated figure of Britannia, holding a trident and shield, with the date “1901” below and the inscription “ONE PENNY”.
